Red, White and Blue Jello Shots

Red, White and Blue Jello Shots

It is early on Sunday and we are about to spend our day tubing down the river with friends! Yesterday we decided to make patriotic jello shots as a surprise for the group. We spent the day experimenting on how to get these booze-filled treats to turn out. This recipe is relatively simple, you just need to have the patience to wait for the layers to set. Plus, they are coconut cream flavored!

White Wine Sangria with Lemon and Pear

White Wine Sangria with Lemon and Pear

When we asked Gavin’s mom what else we could bring to our Easter luncheon and she requested Sangria, it was time to get creative with what we had available in the kitchen. Since we discovered we were reaching a shortage of red wine, we grabbed a bottle of white and looked for whatever fruit we had in the fruit bowl. This low calorie sangria is light, refreshing, and full of citrus flavor.

Spicy Pickle Martini Recipe

Spicy Pickle Martini Recipe

We are really diggin’ Hat Creek Provisions pickles these days! What sets them apart from other pickles, is they don’t use vinegar to preserve the cukes, they ferment them. This means the pickles are crisp, flavorful, and the brine is full of probiotics and electrolytes. This got us thinking, since electrolytes help with hangovers, why not make a “hair of the dog” martini?

Mo-heat-o Cocktail Recipe

Our friend Sophie introduced us to a new cocktail mixer called Owls Brew and we are hooked! Owls Brew is a low calorie mixer comprised of flavorful tea, agave, and water. That's it! You can simply mix the Owls Brew with the liquor of your choice, but we wanted to take our favorite cocktails and give them a low-cal flavor upgrade.

mojito cocktail recipe with owl's brew

This is our twist on the mojito. We used the Wicked Green Owls Brew because it comes with a habanero kick, so we’ll call this one a Mo-heat-o. J A traditional mojito is made by muddling sugar with lime juice and mint leaves. We substituted the sugar for the slightly sweet Owls Brew, but it you want a sweeter cocktail go ahead and mix some sugar back in.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Wicked Green Owl’s Brew
  • 1.5 oz white rum
  • 12 sprigs of mint
  • Juice of one lime
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional)

Use a muddler to smash together the lime juice, mint leaves, and sugar if you'd like.  Add the rum and Owls Brew, cover with another glass and shake until cold and well mixed. Garnish with mint leaves and a lime wedge.

If you are wondering where to find The Owls Brew, you can buy it online or click here to find them in retail locations.
