This past weekend we had the opportunity to head to Alcomar, a neighborhood coastal-inspired seafood spot here in Austin. One of the dishes prepared for us in the demonstration was their Mango Chipotle Campechana. This seafood cocktail was light and refreshing dish that was perfect for the 100 degree heat. The dish had a nice mix of sweet, savory, and spicy and was served with homemade yucca chips. It is a perfect summer appetizer that was more filling than expected! Alcomar was kind enough to let us share the recipe with you!Read More
Another recipe that we created on our Asian Tapas night were these Chicken Satay Skewers. The reason why we decided we wanted to have this dinner theme night was because it reminded us of eating all the street food during the night markets in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Thai Chicken Satay is the perfect snack because it is healthy, low carb, and totally scrumptious. Plus, one you marinade the meat, it grills up pretty quickly! This is also our go-to recipe for a quick weeknight meal.Read More
Making a marinade is super weird. You mix a bunch of stuff together, add meat and hope for the best. We were planning on making this marinade the night before family was coming over to celebrate Gavin’s birthday. Well, that night was also our friend’s engagement party, which turned into us getting home buzzed up at midnight. Karen set her alarm bright and early, woke up in a haze and started creating the marinade. We’re surprised that she even remembered to write down the recipe, and were SHOCKED when tasted the finish product and it… was… awesome.Read More
We heard that Hot Honey is a new culinary trend. After the Jacobsen’s Salt Company sent us a sample to try, it took us a while to figure out how we wanted to incorporate it into a recipe. Around the same time, we discovered a new fish company, The Seaforth Fish Company, who ships the freshest wild-caught salmon and halibut straight from the waters of Alaska. You can feel good about this sustainable fish company and their products are so fresh, healthy, and delicious!Read More
Some people dread going to the grocery store. Well we LOVE it! We even like to make a date out of it by exploring a new ethnic grocery store together. We discover new foods to cook with and even get a good giggle at some very “unique” ingredients. When we visit the local Asian market we always buy loads and loads of dumplings to steam as well as a bunch of unique spices to play with. You don’t even need to head to a specialty store in order to get Chinese Five Spice and this is the star of our recipe.Read More
