Peppermint Mocha Affogato

Sharing is caring!

Ho Ho Ho, Merry ice cream-mas!!

The weather outside is getting cold, but it’s always the right time for ice cream in our book.

This is especially true when it is Gavin’s favorite flavor, peppermint stick.

When Hudsonville Ice Cream approached us to partner with them to create a recipe, we got so excited because there’s no better excuse to eat quality ice cream.

Hudsonville’s Peppermint Stick is the best store-bought peppermint stick flavor he’s ever tasted.

For today’s recipe, we’re taking a trip down memory lane to our adventures in Italy, where we could be found eating/drinking affogatos whenever possible.

If you don’t know what an affogato is, the traditional recipe is a scoop of vanilla ice cream or gelato, topped with hot espresso.

It’s the perfect mix of hot and cold in a sweet and satisfying dessert.

It is the holiday season, so there’s no better time to put a festive spin on the classic Italian cafe dessert.

For our take on this classic, we made hot chocolate instead of espresso (although espresso could be just as tasty) and poured it over Hudsonville’s delicious peppermint stick ice cream.

We also topped the dessert with seasonal cookies, candy canes, peppermint sprinkles, and of course, whipped cream.

We set all of these toppings up in a festive display that is perfect for entertaining.

You need to make this treat for your friends and family this holiday.

Hudsonville Ice Cream is located in Central Market grocery stores in Texas, and they have an easy way to track down their ice cream via their scoop finder.

  • 12 oz. whole milk or coffee, if you are looking for a coffee kick
  • Whipped cream

Start by making simmering your milk in a saucepan on medium heat. If you’d prefer to use coffee, just use your hot coffee.

Once warm, stir in your hot cocoa mix.

Pour the hot cocoa over the ice cream.

Top with whipped cream and sprinkles and then garnish with candy canes and cookie straws.
