Chocolate Covered Frozen Banana Recipe

Sharing is caring!

We are gearing up for another year of the Austin City Limits Music Festival.

This year we are pretty stoked about seeing Arctic Monkeys, Khalid, Hozier, and Justice.

Additionally, we are so lucky that music legend Paul McCartney will performing. What a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

To gear up for this year’s festival, we filmed a segment with Studio512 sharing our top food picks from the music festival. Check it out:

One of the ACL Eats food vendors that we will excited to munch on in while spending the weekend at Zilker Park is Bananarchy.

Their chocolate dipped frozen bananas are definitely a cool treat to beat the heat.

Plus, in between all the beers we will be drinking, eating a piece of fruit might be our biggest accomplishment of the festival weekend.

We hope our food recommendations tame your taste buds while at Austin City Limits.

In case you aren’t able to make ACL this year, we’ve come up with a copycat recipe so you can enjoy those chocolate dipped frozen bananas at home.

They seriously taste like an ice cream bar, but are even healthier. It’s similar to this Healthy Banana Split recipe, just frozen!

Plus, we seriously love how the toppings are totally customizable. Grab the nuts, candies, sprinkles, cookies, you name it!

Chocolate Covered Frozen Banana Recipe

Makes 6

Total Time: 1 hour, 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 6 bananas

  • 6 popsicle sticks

  • 1 ½ cups semi sweet chocolate chips

  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil

  • 1 cup of shredded toasted coconut

  • 1 cup of chopped Oreo cookies

  • 1 cups of chopped hazelnuts

Start by removing your bananas from their peel.

Slice off about an inch of the bottom of the banana in order to leave room for the popsicle stick. Gently press the stick into the banana, leaving roughly 2 inches for a handle.

Place the bananas on a wax paper lined baking sheet and freeze for one hour.  While you’re waiting for your banana pops to freeze, eat the six inches of banana pieces you cut off.

Once the bananas are firm, combine the chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwavable dish. Microwave for 90 seconds, stopping every 30 seconds to stir the mixture. Be careful to not overcook and burn the chocolate.

Once the chocolate coating is smooth, remove the bananas from the freezer.

One by one, use a spoon to coat the banana while rolling it in the chocolate. Working quickly before the chocolate coating starts to harden, roll the chocolate dipped frozen banana into the topping of your choice.

Return your frozen desserts back onto the wax paper for the coating to harden.

If you prefer a softer banana, feel free to eat it immediately. Otherwise return the bananas to the freezer for a few minutes to re-freeze.

If you don’t eat them all in one sitting (and who could blame you if you did), keep them in the freezer covered in plastic wrap. Enjoy!
