Homemade Pizza – Rosa Pizza with a Prosciutto Rose

Sharing is caring!

A fun and inexpensive date night idea is making a homemade (or semi-homemade) pizza together. One of our first dates together included roaming the farmers market, picking out some fresh ingredients, and heading home to a wine-filled pizza-making night. Our first homemade pizza together even had slices of purple potatoes on it! You can get as creative as your heart desires.

For this pizza recipe, we decided to take a unique spin on traditional pizza sauce by making a rosa pizza. It’s very simple to do, just mix together Bertolli® Organic Creamy Alfredo Sauce with Bertolli® Fire Roasted Garlic Marinara Sauce and voila, you have a new spin on a pizza. For this homemade pizza, we channeled inspiration from our trip to Italy (travel guides coming soon, promise!) and chose fresh basil and mozzarella as our pizza ingredients.

Since it was a rosa pizza, we even decided to top it with a prosciutto rose! Making the carnivorous flower its actually quite easy to pull off and it makes your pizza look all that more romantic.

A prosciutto rose would also look great on a chicken spinach alfredo pizza!

Margarita Rosa Pizza

Serves 2-4

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 ball of pizza dough

  • Sprinkle of flour

  • Drizzle of olive oil

  • ¼ cup of Bertolli Organic Creamy Alfredo

  • ¼ cup of Bertolli Fire Roasted Garlic Marinara

  • 1 ball of mozzarella cheese

  • 5-8 fresh basil leaves

  • 2-3 slices of prosciutto, cut in half lengthwise

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Sprinkle flour on a clean work surface and start to stretch out your pizza dough, adding more flour as needed. Using a rolling pin, flatten the crust so that it is equal thickness all around. Brush the edges of the crust with olive oil. Lifehack: brushing olive oil on the outer crust prior to and during baking helps create a crispy, golden brown crust.

In a bowl, mix together the alfredo sauce with the red sauce. Stir until well combined and then spoon onto the pizza crust, spreading the sauce to your desired thickness. Bake in the oven (without other toppings) for 10-15 minutes until the dough is no longer soft in the middle.

Meanwhile, slice your ball of mozzarella into ⅓ inch slices. Remove the pizza from the oven and top it with the cheese slices. Return it to the oven for another 5-10 minutes until the pizza is cooked through and the cheese starts to melt.

Remove the pizza from the oven and let cool for 3-5 minutes. Then top with fresh basil leaves.

Take one end of the prosciutto and start to wrap it around itself, while holding on and gathering the prosciutto at the bottom with your fingers. Continue to wrap pieces until the rose takes shape. Set on top of your pizza for an impressive presentation on a tasty dish!
